The Snake Pass, another gem in the Peak District’s treasure trove of epic roads, is a biker’s playground that never disappoints. Winding its way from Glossop to Sheffield via the A57, this legendary route has a little bit of everything to keep you on your toes—and your throttle hand busy. It starts with fast, open straights that tempt you to let loose, then whisks you into tight, twisty moorland bends where one wrong move could land you face-to-face with a sheep that looks like it’s judging your cornering technique.
As you venture further, you’re plunged into heavily wooded sections that make you feel like you’re in a high-speed game of *Where’s the Squirrel?*, before finally rewarding you with stunning views of the Ladybower Reservoir. And let’s be honest, there’s no better backdrop for pulling over, pretending to check your bike, and subtly flexing for Instagram.
For me, the ride isn’t complete without a little detour. As the Snake Pass approaches its Sheffield end, I like to turn right onto the A6013 towards Bamford, where a pit stop at the excellent Yorkshire Bridge Inn is practically mandatory. It’s the perfect place to refuel—not the bike, but your caffeine levels and maybe your appetite. Whether you’re craving a hearty meal or just a quick drink, this cozy spot is a haven for weary bikers. Plus, it’s a great place to sit and swap exaggerated tales of how you “totally nailed” that last hairpin bend.
