Another stop on the 2012 Sculpture Trail ride: Anish Kapoor’s Temenos, looming over the north-east corner of Middlesbrough Dock in Middlehaven like some giant alien antenna picking up cosmic vibes from Teesside.

At 110 metres long and pushing 50 metres tall, it’s not exactly easy to miss, especially once you clock the £2.7 million price tag. That’s enough to buy every resident of Middlesbrough a lifetime’s supply of parmos, but instead the town got this: part engineering feat, part art statement, and quite possibly a secret portal to another dimension.
Worth the detour if you’re doing the trail, it towers over everything else on the route and makes for a proper photo stop.
