If you’re riding the A5 between Shrewsbury and Oswestry, do yourself a favour and peel off onto the B4396/B4391 towards Bala. It’s a proper stretch of road: tight, twisty, and threaded through some of the best scenery this corner of Wales has to offer.

From Bala, carry on towards Ffestiniog and the fun doesn’t let up. Sweeping bends, big views over the hills, and barely another vehicle in sight if you time it right.

Why it’s worth the detour

This isn’t a route you’ll find plastered all over the biker forums, but it should be. The B4391 in particular rewards anyone who enjoys reading a road: quick changes of direction, blind crests, and just enough straight to open the throttle before the next bend arrives.

If you’re planning a run out from Shrewsbury way, add this one to the list.
