In the summer of 2005, a pair of striking sculptures burst onto the scene outside the new Omni Centre leisure complex in Picardy Place, turning heads and sparking curiosity.

Giraffes Sculpture in Edinburgh

Designed by Helen Denerley, these towering works of art are proof that one person’s trash is another person’s towering masterpiece. Crafted entirely from scrap metal, they’ve been upcycled into a conversation-starting duo that looks ready to step off their plinths and join the Edinburgh skyline.

The taller of the two stands an impressive 22 feet high—practically tall enough to borrow coffee from a second-floor office. These sculptures aren’t just art; they’re a brilliant example of how to turn old junk into something you’d cross the street to admire.
