Bob and Bonzo, intrepid adventurers and connoisseurs of quirky road trips, fired up their Honda Blackbirds and embarked on an epic journey to the north of England and a cheeky hop into Scotland. Their mission? To conquer the last stops of this year’s Grim Riders sculpture trail ride and bag some bragging rights along the way.
First up, the King and Queen in Glenkiln, where the royal duo preside over the countryside like statuesque monarchs of all they survey (including a few confused sheep, ehh Bonz?). Next, they swung by Edinburgh to marvel at the Giraffes—a pair of towering scrap metal wonders that might have left Bob wondering if his motorbike would be repurposed into a steampunk flamingo the next time he wrote it off.
Then it was onward to Gateshead, where the Angel of the North spread its mighty wings in a display so magnificent it made Bonzo briefly reconsider his life choices as a sidecar occupant. Peterlee’s Apollo Pavilion was next, offering brutalist charm and the vibe of a 1960s sci-fi movie set. And finally, the duo roared into Middlesbrough to behold Kapoor’s massive Temenos, a steel loop-de-loop so grand it probably has its own postcode.
The pair returned home victorious, their digital camera rolls bursting with sculptures, and their bikes covered in more miles—and mud—than ever. It was a road trip for the ages, or at least one that will keep their friends rolling their eyes for weeks.
