The B1257 from Helmsley to Clay Bank is a nice, fast flowing road with fantastic views of the Yorkshire countryside. It winds through the North York Moors, with long sweeping curves that let you build a proper rhythm rather than constantly working the brakes.
The scenery does plenty of the talking here too, rolling moorland stretching out in every direction, with the road itself often perched right on the edge of it.
Why it’s worth a ride
Not every great road needs to be tight and technical. This one’s proof that a well surfaced, flowing route through beautiful countryside can be just as satisfying, especially when you can actually enjoy the views without having to concentrate on hairpin after hairpin.
A firm favourite if you’re riding this corner of Yorkshire.
