The A264 from East Grinstead to Royal Tunbridge Wells is a great way to cut through the High Weald without ever touching a motorway. It winds past Ashdown Forest, with plenty of tree-lined sections and a good mix of gentle curves to keep you engaged.

It’s not the longest route, but it packs in a fair bit of variety, open farmland one minute, woodland the next, before dropping you into Tunbridge Wells itself.

Why it’s worth a ride

This is a handy road for linking up a ride through Sussex and Kent, easy to reach from the M23 or M25, but far enough off the beaten track to actually feel like riding rather than commuting. Well worth a spot on a longer loop through the area.
