Spring, a striking blue steel piece that’s sprung up right on the site of Leamington Spa’s original spa, slap in the middle of the town’s ongoing facelift. If the council’s regeneration plans needed a mascot, this is it.
The title’s doing some heavy lifting. There’s the spring of water that gave the spa its name in the first place, there’s spring as in the season, that upward surge of new life mirrored in the sculpture’s rising curves and its crocus-blue colour, and then there’s the more literal reading: a tightly coiled metal spring, all that latent energy just waiting to go off. Three meanings, one word, and somehow it works.
Worth swinging the bike round for a proper look if you’re doing the trail, and it’s an easy add-on to a day out.
