Shobdon Cafe was again the chosen destination for breakfast and meet up with our Cymry Motorbeicywr contingent. Bob only needs a few more visits to qualify for the Jet A1 discount fuel card. What swung this one was the promise to the petrol pump attendant that he was going to bring four blackbirds in for refuelling, the attendant was having visions of the USAF’s finest spy planes dropping in one Saturday morning for a Lysander breakfast and a top up, Bob was thinking more of Rigs, Bonzo’s, Chinny’s and his own Honda CBR1100XX calling by.

The route chosen by Bob’s Sat-Nav was again Redditch for a fuel stop and onto Bromsgrove, Droitwich to pick up the A443 to Tenbury Wells. This is a fine motorcycling road but is compromised by the amount of traffic and limited overtaking places. Being this weeks “tail end Charlie” made it a game of catch-up all the way.

Shobdon cafe once again produced the goods and a fine set of breakfast fare was ordered, served and consumed with relish. Not wishing to mention any names but Windsor, being a pensioner, as he is known to remind us occasionally, thought he would have a “reduced” intake of calories and ordered the Sausage, egg & chips option, this proved to be a small error of judgement as a huge plateful of snap was produced seemingly outweighing the calorie intake of the Lysander. Needless to say, nothing was left as the surplus was distributed amongst his needy fellow travellers…..

After discussion, Aberystwyth was chosen as the next stop on today’s transit of Herefordshire and Canolbarth Cymru. Bonzo, as a relative local, took the lead and took us via the A44 to Rhayader where he diverted from the established A470/A44 routeing and headed down to the Elan Valley where we picked up the fantastic mountain road to Aberystwyth. After a photo stop on the mountain road our destination was reached in full sunshine and turned out to be the warmest part of an otherwise cold day.

The seafront bike park was a busy place and the sea looked tempting……….
